President’s 2014 Budget Adds Support for Nursing Workforce Programs

President Obama’s federal fiscal year 2014 budget proposal, released yesterday, contains increased funding commitments for Title VIII nursing programs. Specific increases include $20 million for nursing workforce development; $20 million for nursing advanced education; and just over $1 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research. A statement from the Department of Health and Human Services about the budget proposal explained the funding as part of an overall strategy to increase access and reduce costs, in part, through a commitment to strengthening the health care workforce. Yesterday’s CHA News contained a robust list of budget items related specifically to hospitals. More information about the complete budget proposal is available at www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget.
