President Signs Law Relieving CAHs, Rural Hospitals From Direct Supervision Requirement

Yesterday, President Obama signed into law H.R. 4067, requiring the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to refrain — through calendar year 2014 – from enforcing an inflexible Medicare direct-supervision requirement for outpatient therapy services provided at critical access hospitals and small rural hospitals. Enforcing the burdensome supervision requirement presents a major obstacle to small and rural hospitals and could diminish the quality of the care they are able to provide. H.R. 4067 was offered by Rep. Lynn Jenkins and Sen. Jerry Moran, both from Kansas.
