For CEOs, Government Relations Staff, Facilities Staff, Disaster Readiness Staff

Given the continued and growing threat of extreme weather, and as an additional precautionary measure following the 2017 and 2018 wildfires, PG&E is enhancing and expanding its Community Wildfire Safety Program to further reduce wildfire risks and help keep customers and communities safe.

As part of this effort, PG&E asks all customers to be prepared for power outages. If extreme fire danger conditions threaten a portion of the electric system, it may be necessary for PG&E implement a public safety power shutoff — turning off electricity in the interest of public safety.

PG&E would like to work with hospitals to help prepare for power outages related to extreme weather and wildfire threats. Here are some important steps to take today:

  • Update contact information at www.pge.com/mywildfirealerts or by calling (866) 743-6589 during normal business hours, to receive information through automated calls, texts, and emails prior to a public safety power shutoff, when possible.
  • Ensure any backup generators are ready to safely operate. Visit www.pge.com/generatorsafety for more information.
  • Create and practice an emergency plan. Make sure employees know what to do by practicing the plan several times.

PG&E will host a webinar for hospitals on its wildfire safety program for interested hospitals on June 7 from 9-10 a.m. (PT); details will be shared soon via CHA News.
