OSHPD Updates ‘Best Practices’ Manual
New guide for design, review of hospital construction projects

The Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) has released Guide for Working on Projects Under OSHPD Jurisdiction – Tips From the Experts, which is an update to its popular “best practices” manual published in 2006. Like the earlier edition, the new guide was published to aid in the design and review of hospital construction projects in California and to serve as a model for avoiding costly delays sometimes associated with large, complex construction projects. The guide was updated by the Hospital Building Safety Board, which is comprised of experts in the hospital construction industry, in conjunction with OSHPD, and vetted through a number of public meetings. In addition, CHA assembled a workgroup that provided input on “Section 7 – Guidelines for Hospitals in Working with OSHPD.” The publication is intended to be used as a general guide and should not replace, supersede or alter the requirements of the California Building Standards Code or any other enforceable regulations, codes or standards for hospital construction. The guide is available on the OSHPD website at′10′12_FINAL-V4kb.pdf.
