Focus is on new structural performance category

A new structural performance category (SPC) within the 2016 California Building Standards Code, SPC-4D,will allow seismically noncompliant buildings (SPC-1 or SPC-2) meeting certain conditions to remain in use past the 2030 seismic compliance deadline. The SPC-4D regulations were approved by the California Building Standards Commission at its December meeting and will be effective Jan. 1, 2017. For more information on the SPC-4D regulations and for guidelines on submitting SPC-4D projects before Jan. 1, 2017, refer to the newly established OSHPD website. Hospitals interested in attaining SPC-4D should contact Roy Lobo, OSHPD Seismic Compliance Unit, at (916) 440-8471.
