Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has issued an interim final rule with comment period extending the compliance deadline for provider information blocking requirements from Nov. 2 to April 5, 2021.

In addition to the overall information blocking provisions, ONC is also extending compliance and applicability dates for certain 2015 Edition health information technology (IT) certification criteria and conditions and maintenance of certification requirements under the ONC Health IT Certification Program to April 5, 2021. ONC has also delayed requirements for vendors to include standardized application programming interface functionality in electronic health record technology until Dec. 31, 2022. Additional compliance and enforcement deadlines are outlined by ONC in an updated table

The interim final rule also includes technical corrections and clarifications to the final rule. ONC will hold an informational webinar on Nov. 2 at noon (PT). Registration is required.
