OIG Work Plan Includes DME, Hospital Infectious Disease Preparedness

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) has issued its Work Plan Mid-Year Update for Fiscal Year 2015. The mid-year update removes items that have been completed, postponed or canceled, and adds items that have been started since the Oct. 2014 release of the 2015 Work Plan (see previous CHA News article). Notable updates include a report to determine the effects of the competitive bidding program on Medicare beneficiaries’ access to certain types of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies. OIG will also report on hospitals’ efforts to prepare for the possibility of public health emergencies resulting from infectious diseases and will identify lessons learned through recent experiences with pandemic or highly-contagious diseases, such as Ebola.
