OIG Surveys Hospitals on Fraud and Abuse Safeguards in EHR Systems

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health and Human Services has issued a survey to all hospitals that received Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) incentive payments from Jan. 1, 2011, to March 31, 2011. The survey is being conducted as part of a study on fraud and abuse safeguards in EHRs to be released by OIG next year. A letter accompanying the survey was addressed to the hospital CEO or administrator and requests that responses be submitted by Oct. 26. Health systems may complete a single response for all facilities. A copy of the survey is attached for your information. CHA anticipates that future surveys will be conducted as the program expands and additional payments are received by hospitals each year.
