October Is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

This month marks National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an important opportunity for health care providers to review cybersecurity tips and ensure they are meeting their obligations to protect sensitive information. As technology’s role in the delivery of health care grows, cybersecurity risks are increasing, and organizations find themselves mitigating a variety of new and ever-changing cyberattacks on a wide range of clinical and operational technology systems. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights website provides guidance on the HIPAA Security Rule and other specific cybersecurity topics. In addition, CHA has developed a dedicated web page for cybersecurity tools and resources. CHA encourages all health care providers to work with their information system management team to identify the necessary resources to develop a strong cybersecurity defense.
