New Workforce Commission to Address State’s Health Care Staffing Needs
Focus will be on primary care, mental health and the aging population

A new workforce commission has been convened, with funding support from Blue Shield of California, the California Health Care Foundation, The California Endowment and the California Wellness Foundation. The California Future Health Workforce Commission – comprised of leaders in the health, education and workforce development sectors – was created to help the state close the gap between the current workforce and future needs. Commissioners will meet over the next 15 months to develop a strategic plan for building California’s health care workforce and will establish short, medium and long-term solutions for the state, its educational institutions, employers and other stakeholders. The commission is co-chaired by Janet Napolitano, JD, president, University of California, and Lloyd Dean, MA, president/CEO, Dignity Health. For more information, visit
