New Resource Available on Treatment Options for Alcohol Problems

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), part of the National Institutes of Health, has developed a new publication designed to educate individuals and families on treatment for alcohol problems. Titled Treatment for Alcohol Problems: Finding and Getting Help, the guide offers information on determining when treatment is necessary, available options for treatment, approved medications for treating alcohol abuse, tips for selecting treatment and more. According to the NIAAA, approximately 17 million adults ages 18 and older suffer from an alcohol use disorder and one-third of people who are treated for alcohol problems have no further symptoms one year later – signifying the importance of finding and obtaining treatment.
