New Resource Available for Hospital Boards

This week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG), the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors, the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and the Health Care Compliance Association jointly released a new educational resource titled Practical Guidance for Health Care Governing Boards on Compliance Oversight. Developed for internal auditors, lawyers, compliance officers and members of governing boards, the guidance provides practical ideas and tools, and helps hospitals understand the OIG’s expectations regarding the governing board’s oversight of the hospital’s compliance program.

The publication is the fourth in a series that the OIG has published with the AHLA on the compliance responsibilities of health care boards of directors. The publications are available at http://oig.hhs.gov/compliance/compliance-guidance/compliance-resource-material.asp.

CHA publishes a comprehensive California Hospital Compliance Manual that includes a chapter detailing the governing board‘s compliance responsibilities. For more information on the 2015 edition of the manual or to order, visit www.calhospital.org/compliance.
