New Interactive Tool Assesses Compliance With Laws Regarding Individuals With Disabilities

The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) has posted a new interactive tool to help entities that contract with the federal government to assess their compliance with the affirmative action program requirements of Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This law prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and requires government contractors and subcontractors to take affirmative action to ensure equal employment opportunity and foster employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The requirements of the Section 503 rule pertaining to written affirmative action program requirements apply to each federal government contractor that has 50 or more employees and a federal contract of $50,000 or more. The requirements are not triggered by participation in the Medicare or Medicaid programs.

The Checklist for Compliance with Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is attached.
