New Initiative Aims to Reduce Hospital Falls and Pressure Ulcers
HHS to offer free tools and training to 20 qualifying hospitals

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is directing an initiative to reduce the frequency of falls and pressure ulcers (PU) in hospital settings. Offered at no cost for two years to qualifying hospitals, the program will provide in-person training, technical assistance via webinars and teleconferences, education, support throughout the implementation process and a network within which to share experiences, challenges and solutions. In addition, AHRQ toolkits will inform hospitals on:

  • The importance of falls and PU prevention
  • Implementing and sustaining best practices
  • Measuring falls and PU rates and practices
  • Developing a staff training program

The deadline for hospitals to apply to the program is Jan. 22. AHRQ will select 20 eligible hospitals to participate. For more information or to request an application, contact Mahsa Farahani at the Hospital Quality Institute, (916) 552-7521, or by email at mfarahani@hqinstitute.org.
