New HQI Program to Enhance Hospital Partnerships With Patients, Families

The Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) will soon offer a program to lead hospitals and health systems through evidence-based steps to collaborate with patients and their families as partners in care and in organizational improvement.

Titled ENGAGE!, the program was developed as part of HQI’s Partnership for Patient Experience strategy in response to frequent hospital requests for practical assistance to strengthen patient and family engagement and improve HCAHPS scores. The program will take place between February and September 2016 and consist of two tracks.

Track I, Engagement Development Collaborative, is designed for hospitals that are ready to establish patient family advisory councils and other modalities for patient family advisor engagement, such as their integration on safety and quality improvement committees.

Track 2, Engagement Community of Practice, offers advanced learning opportunities designed for hospitals wishing to sustain, deepen and grow their current efforts in patient family engagement.

The application deadline is Jan. 29. In-person kickoff events are scheduled for Feb. 25 in Southern California and Northern California. For more information and to apply, visit the HQI website and/or contact Boris Kalanj, HQI’s director of cultural care and experience, at (916) 552-7694.
