New AFL Focuses on Patients’ Nutritional Needs

The attached All Facilities Letter (AFL) from the California Department of Public Health reminds providers that patients’ nutritional needs should be met through menu development according to physicians’ diet orders and in coordination with each facility’s diet manual. The AFL explains how facility diet manuals should be used and developed, and addresses the issue of recommended dietary allowances in patients’ diets. The AFL, which supersedes AFL 13-11, also clarifies the intent of disaster menu planning.
