National Volunteer Week Offers Opportunity to Honor Hospital Volunteers

National Volunteer Week, April 22-26, celebrates the many ways that volunteers strengthen their communities.  CHA encourages member hospitals to use National Volunteer Week as an opportunity to thank their own volunteers and spotlight their contributions to enhancing the patient experience. CHA’s online Volunteer Service Resource Center features members-only tools and information for patient-centered programs, effective practices and a variety of volunteer program samples from peer hospitals.

In addition, CHA’s CaringisourCalling.org website highlights current volunteers from hospitals throughout the state with videos, as well as individuals who have led inspiring volunteer careers. To nominate an outstanding hospital volunteer, go to www.caringisourcalling.org/form/nominate-outstanding-hospital-volunteer.

According to Volunteering and Civic Life in America, in 2011 more than 64 million Americans volunteered a total of 8 billion hours, for an estimated economic value of about $171 billion. An online toolkit for National Volunteer Week, including sample messages, logos and ideas is available at www.handsonnetwork.org/files/resources/nvw_resourceguide_2013.pdf.
