National Standards for Compounding Practices Postponed

On Sept. 29, United States Pharmacopeia (USP) announced it will postpone the official date of USP 800, the national professional standards that guide compounding practices and compounding administration of drugs. USP’s goal is to provide a unified approach to quality compounding by aligning the official date of USP 800 with the official date of the next revision of USP 797, Pharmaceutical Compounding – Sterile Preparations.  Hospitals are advised to review pharmaceutical operations and assessment of compliance with USP 797, USP 800 and the California Board of Pharmacy state sterile compounding regulations in advance of the new official date — Dec. 1, 2019. For more information, visit CHA’s sterile compounding web page.
