Thursday is National Rural Health Day, showcasing rural health care providers, their challenges and triumphs, and recognizing the unique health care needs of rural communities.

With the theme “Celebrate the Power of Rural,” the national day of recognition is hosted by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health. To help promote rural providers’ hard work and significant contributions, visit www.powerofrural.org for sample social media posts and graphics, toolkits, and other resources.

The Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, part of the Health Resources and Services Administration, also offers a full week of webinars, Twitter chats, and other events that focus on timely rural health care topics.

In California, rural hospitals are located in 36 of the state’s 58 counties, and several are the only hospital in their county. In 2017, the state’s rural hospitals treated 110,000 inpatients and had 5.1 million emergency department visits.
