National Provider Groups Request Delay in Stage 2 of Meaningful Use Requirements

The American Hospital Association (AHA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) sent a joint letter this week to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) requesting a one-year delay in stage 2 meaningful use requirements by making the transition voluntary for 2014. Stage 2 of the meaningful use program has already been postponed from 2013 to 2014, but with fiscal year 2014 quickly approaching on Oct. 1, many providers and vendors are not prepared to transition from stage 1 to stage 2. AMA and AHA also requested that HHS extend each stage of meaningful use to no less than three years for all providers. CHA supports the delay in order to promote a smooth transition to the widespread adoption of electronic health records.
