Medicare Payments to IPFs to Increase by 2.1 Percent in FFY 2015

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) expects payments to inpatient psychiatric facilities (IPFs) to increase by approximately 2.1 percent, or $100 million, in federal fiscal year 2015 under its proposed rule released today. CMS estimates the market basket increase of 2.7 percent, minus 0.4 percent for multifactor productivity and 0.3 percent for a market basket reduction, resulting in a market basket update of 2 percent. CMS also proposes a new methodology for updating the cost of living adjustment and new quality measures and reporting requirements under the IPF quality reporting program. CHA is currently reviewing the proposed rule and will prepare a more detailed summary in the coming weeks. CHA will work with members to develop comments on the proposed rule, which are due June 30 by 2 p.m. (PT). The proposed rule is attached.
