Medical Board Encourages Physicians to Renew Licenses Early, Online

The Medical Board of California is asking physicians who need to renew their medical licenses to do so early and to use the online system if possible. Licensing renewal notices are distributed 90 days in advance of the expiration date, and renewing as soon as possible will help to avoid delays that could impact a physician’s ability to practice. While delays in the renewal process have been related to implementation of a new online system, the online process is still the fastest method because renewal by mail takes four to six weeks. The medical board recommends that physicians verify their license status at www.mbc.ca.gov seven days after completing the online renewal. If it appears the license has not been renewed, physicians should contact the medical board’s information technology help desk at (916) 263-2205 for assistance.
