Medi-Cal Takes Center Stage at Capitol Rally Tomorrow

Increased Medi-Cal funding to all health care providers will be the focus of a large-scale rally tomorrow, June 2, in Sacramento.

The rally, which will take place from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the west steps of the State Capitol, is part of a comprehensive advocacy effort to encourage the Legislature and the Administration to include increased Medi-Cal funding in the upcoming state budget negotiations. Under California law, the Legislature must pass a state budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year by June 15. The Governor then must sign the new budget by June 30. The new fiscal year begins July 1.

The event, expected to attract 5,000 people from throughout California, is being cosponsored by CHA along with a broad-based coalition of Medi-Cal providers known as We Care for California. Funding also is being provided by Caring for Californians, the labor management committee sponsored by CHA and Service Employees International Union – United Healthcare Workers West.

Buses will leave from strategic locations around the state to provide attendees with transportation to and from the Capitol (see attached schedule). Meals and beverages also will be provided.

CHA President/CEO C. Duane Dauner will be among the speakers during the main stage program, which will take place from 12:45-1:45 p.m.
