Judiciary Subcommittee Addresses Health Care Consolidation

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition, and the Internet held a hearing May 17 on health care consolidation and competition following implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The subcommittee heard testimony from Scott Gottlieb, MD, of the American Enterprise Institute; Edmund Haislmaier of the Heritage Foundation; and Thomas Greenery of the St. Louis University School of Law. In opening statements, Republicans argued that provisions included in ACA will lead to health care consolidation and higher prices. Democrats expressed concerns about linking consolidation in the health care market to ACA.
