JAMA Reports on Mental Illness in Children

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), U.S. government data shows the top five disabilities affecting children nationwide are mental health problems not physical issues. Approximately one in five parents report the following disabilities as contributing to their child’s limitations: speech problem; learning disability; attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder; other emotional, mental or behavior problems; and other developmental problems, according to Children With Disabilities, the latest volume in the journal series The Future of Children, published by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and the Brookings Institution.
