HRSA Awards $200 Million for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services

The Health Resources and Services Administration has announced that it will award $200 million in funding to health centers and rural health organizations to increase access to substance abuse and mental health services. The funding will be distributed among 1,178 health centers and 13 rural health organizations across every state as well as Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Pacific basin. The services supported by this funding focus on the treatment, prevention and awareness of opioid abuse in the primary care setting by increasing personnel, leveraging health information technology and providing training. The expanded funding is part of the Department of Health and Human Services effort to fight the nationwide opioid epidemic.
