Today, the House Energy & Commerce Committee held a joint hearing with its Subcommittee on Energy and Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change about the impacts of wildfires on the energy infrastructure and environment.

CHA submitted comments to the chairmen and ranking members of the committees outlining specific examples of unintended harmful effects from the 2019 planned power shutoffs. In its letter, CHA raises concerns about the shutoffs jeopardizing public safety and questions the sustainability of the expanded practice of using shutoffs to prevent wildfires from sparking.

CHA will continue to work with the committee and members of the California congressional delegation to develop sound policies for public safety power shutoffs.
