House Committees Plan to Address the ACA

The House of Representatives committees of jurisdiction over the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — the Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees — plan to begin marking up their repeal and replace portions of the ACA next week. In his address to the Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, President Trump lent his support to using tax credits to assist with the purchase of insurance and encouraged Congress to act swiftly.

While they have not publicly released the legislation they plan to work on, some members of the committees were allowed to read a draft in a secluded room in the Capitol today. CHA expects the draft will follow the broad contours of the Feb. 10 draft and that details will leak out in the days ahead. CHA will provide a detailed summary as soon as more specific information is available.

In the meantime, hospitals are encouraged to continue reaching out to their elected representatives in Washington, D.C., particularly those on the key committees, using the talking points and draft letter from CHA’s Advocacy Alert on Feb. 22. Attached is the list of Californians on the committees of jurisdiction.
