House and Senate Both Release Drug Shortage Legislation

Yesterday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Health Education, Labor & Pensions Committee both unveiled legislation to address the severe drug shortages that have challenged caregivers and hampered patient care. The drug shortage provisions are part of a proposal to revise and reauthorize user-free programs for prescription drugs and medical devices that both committees will consider next week. CHA supports efforts to create early warning systems to alert stakeholders of shortages, comprehensive drug shortage lists and streamlined approval processes for new drugs, most of which are included in the legislation released yesterday. The House and Senate bills are attached.
