Hospitals Urged to Review FFY 2015 Preview Reports for VBP, Readmissions and HACs

CHA urges hospitals to work with their registered QualityNet administrator in reviewing the hospital-specific preview reports for the federal fiscal year (FFY) 2015 hospital value-based purchasing (VBP) program, readmissions reduction program and hospital acquired conditions (HAC) reduction program. By law hospitals are provided a 30-day review and corrections period, which began in mid-July. The 30-day period is the only time allowed for reviewing the data and identifying potential errors, which could impact nearly 6 percent of a hospital’s Medicare fee-for-service inpatient payments for FFY 2015. Hospitals have until Aug. 19 to review their readmissions reports, and until Aug. 21 to review their VBP and HAC reports.

The data released in the FFY 2015 inpatient prospective payment system final rule are proxy factors for payment adjustments. The final factors will be published after the review and corrections period. CHA expects final factors for all three programs to be issued in October, just before payment adjustments would begin for FFY 2015 on Oct. 1.

Hospitals seeking assistance on improving their performance on any of these programs to reduce their financial risk and to improve the quality of patient care  are encouraged to contact the Hospital Quality Institute at (916) 552-7688 or through the website at www.hqinstitute.org.

Additional information about each of the program preview reports, as well as the appeals process, can be found on the QualityNet website at www.qualitynet.org.
