Hospitals Should Be Alert for Ransomware Attacks
Health care systems in multiple countries attacked earlier today

A global cyberattack in dozens of countries today has disrupted hospital and health care computer systems, blocked access to patient files and disrupted care. The attack stems from a ransomware hacking tool that locks out users and demands ransom in exchange for release. The ransomware exploits a vulnerability in some Microsoft systems, but a patch is available for protection.

Hospitals are urged to immediately update their systems with the Microsoft patch if they haven’t already done so; apply best cybersecurity practices to anticipate and respond to existing and emerging threats; proceed with heightened caution; and not open unfamiliar attachments.
