Hospitals Need to Register, Attest for EHR Incentive Payments by Nov. 30
Panel seeks comments on stage 3 meaningful use

Hospitals participating in the Medicare Electronic Health Record Incentive Program for fiscal year (FY) 2012 must complete their online registration and attestation by Nov. 30 in order to receive incentive payments. Hospitals attesting to meaningful use for the first time must report on a continuous 90-day period that ended on or before Sept. 30, 2012. Hospitals attesting to meaningful use for the second time must report for the entire period of FY 2012 (Oct. 1, 2011, through Sept. 30, 2012). Hospitals can register or attest at www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Legislation/EHRIncentivePrograms/RegistrationandAttestation.html.

In addition, the Health Information Technology Policy Committee (HITPC), a federal advisory committee that advises the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on federal HIT policy issues, is soliciting public comment on developing stage 3 meaningful use definitions as it prepares to make its formal recommendations to HHS next year. The request for comments (RFC) is broken into three categories: meaningful use objectives and measures, quality measures, and privacy. The RFC is available at www.healthit.gov/sites/default/files/hitpc_stage3_rfc_final.pdf. The comment deadline is Jan. 14, 2013.
