The Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) invites all California birthing hospitals to join its new Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Learning Community, a free two-year program comprised of webinars, virtual group forums, and one-on-one coaching to strengthen hospital approaches to mental health during the perinatal period. As the program is set to launch in February, hospitals are encouraged to enroll by Jan. 31.
Funded by California Health Care Foundation and free to all California birthing hospitals, the PMH Learning Community is a collaboration of HQI, Maternal Mental Health NOW, and CommonSpirit Health.
The education and resources provided will increase the capacity of hospital perinatal staff to understand, recognize, and effectively respond to perinatal mental health issues. The program will also help hospitals comply with a new California law (Assembly Bill 3032) that, effective Jan. 1, requires hospitals to educate perinatal employees about maternal mental health conditions and inform postpartum women and families about the signs and symptoms of maternal mental health disorders, local post-hospital treatment options, and community resources.
