Hospital Leadership Guide to Social Media Available

The American Hospital Association has released a guide to assist hospitals and health systems in using social media to manage the patient experience and leverage patient engagement in a proactive and thoughtful manner. The online guide provides information and best practices as well as the necessary tools to implement, manage and make informed decisions about the professional use of social media, irrespective of trends. Aimed at helping hospitals establish clear policies and engage employees, the guide also emphasizes the implications of using social media as related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, as well as employee and human resource considerations. The guide is organized into four distinct sections: setting up an infrastructure; five steps to getting started; opportunities to engage; and tools and resources.
