Hospital Burn Centers Required to Report to State Fire Marshal

State law requires all burn centers to report every patient with a burn or smoke inhalation injury or who suffers a burn-related death to the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). For many years, reporting was required on a paper form called “Burn Center Report” (BR-1). However, OSFM is currently transitioning from paper reporting to electronic reporting. Hospitals not yet reporting electronically are encouraged to contact Jennifer Bowman of OSFM at jennifer.bowman@fire.ca.gov or (916) 445-8435.
