HHS Conditionally Approves State’s Health Exchange

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has conditionally approved California’s subsidized health care exchange — recently named Covered California — which is preparing to sign up subscribers in October. The exchange plans to serve millions of uninsured residents, who will be eligible for federal subsidies to obtain coverage in 2014. In its letter to Governor Brown, HHS comments that the conditional approval reflects the “expectation that Covered California will be ready to provide affordable, quality coverage for consumers and small businesses in 2014.” For more information on the conditional approval, see attached HHS letter.
