HHS Announces Public-Private Partnership to Prevent Health Care Fraud

The Department of Health and Human Services has announced a new public-private partnership to prevent health care fraud. The partnership, made up of the federal government, state agencies, private health insurance organizations and health care anti-fraud groups, is designed to reveal and halt scams that cut across public and private payers by sharing information regarding specific methods, utilized billing codes and geographic areas with high concentrations of fraud, as well as best practices for fraud prevention among stakeholders. Committees will hold their first meetings in September, and several public-private workgroups will finalize the operational structure of the partnership and develop a draft initial work plan prior to the first full partnership meeting.
