Health Policy Legislative Day Set for March 15-16
Plan now to join fellow hospital leaders in Sacramento

Hospital CEOs and government relations executives are encouraged to participate in Health Policy Legislative Day, CHA’s annual state advocacy program.

This is the second year of the two-year legislative session, and lawmakers have introduced to date 166 new bill proposals. CHA expects many more bills to be introduced by the Feb. 19 deadline. With this activity, and the release of the Governor’s budget last week, CHA is actively reviewing all proposed legislation and the budget to establish policy positions and priorities for legislative visits.

“It is extremely important that hospital leaders inform their elected officials of what proposed legislation means for their hospital and their communities. Health Policy Legislative Day provides an opportunity to convey those messages directly and collectively advocate on behalf of California hospitals and health systems,” said CHA President/CEO C. Duane Dauner.

The education program on March 16 will detail CHA’s key legislative priorities. New to the program is keynote speaker Hugh Hewitt, a three-time Emmy award winning broadcast journalist and political commentator, who will share his perspectives on the political landscape in this election year.

Attendees are invited to attend a Welcome Reception on Tuesday evening, March 15, to kick off the program. Tuesday afternoon will feature a new participant briefing for members who would like to gain a better understanding of the legislative process and CHA’s advocacy process. A special team leader briefing will help members prepare for the legislative visits with a review of issue-specific talking points and “leave behind” materials.

As hospital representatives register for the program, CHA’s advocacy staff will schedule appointments with legislators with input from the Regional Associations. To facilitate the appointment process, members are strongly encouraged to register by the Feb. 19 deadline.

The Hyatt Regency is the host hotel for the program. Reservations can be made online or by calling (800) 421-1442. Be sure to mention the California Hospital Association to receive the discounted rate of $229 single/double occupancy.
