First ICD-10 Testing Week Successful for CMS

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced it conducted a successful week of “end-to-end” testing for ICD-10 coding from Jan. 26 through Feb. 3. Testing participants included Medicare fee-for-service health care providers, clearinghouses and billing agencies, in addition to the Medicare administrative contractors (MAC) and the durable medical equipment MAC common electronic data interchange contractor. According to CMS, approximately 660 providers and billing companies submitted nearly 15,000 test claims. CMS plans to conduct two additional weeks of testing before the Oct. 1 implementation date of ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes.
