Final Preparations Under Way for Health Policy Legislative Day

CHA is finalizing its preparations for Health Policy Legislative Day on March 12–13 in Sacramento. In addition to the education program and legislative visits on Wednesday, March 13, 30 legislators are planning to attend the breakfast reception with hospital members.CHA’s issue managers and lobbyists have screened more than 2,000 bills that were recently introduced in the Legislature and are now drafting the issue papers for CHA’s top legislative priorities, including preventing proposed state budget payment cuts to hospitals that operate skilled-nursing facilities, modernizing the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act regarding 5150 involuntary patient holds, minimizing patient discharge delays, developing a new hospital fee for 2014–15, delaying implementation of Medi-Cal DRG, and opposing strict mandates on charity care. Talking points and background information on the legislative priorities will be e-mailed to all registrants on Wednesday, March 6.

Nearly 200 hospital CEOs, government relations executives and others have registered for the annual member advocacy program. As CHA finalizes appointments with legislators, team leaders for the meetings will be identified and all registrants will receive an e-mailed schedule of their meetings.
