Federal Agencies Issue Toolbox for Health Care Providers Responding to Attacks

The Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Counterterrorism Center have developed the attached toolbox to assist health care staff in responding to potential attacks at health care facilities. The document first identifies potential sites that may require additional planning and response considerations, such as emergency departments, operating rooms and surgical sites, radiology departments, and infectious disease and quarantine areas. It provides guidance on pre-incident planning and coordination; lockdown, evacuation and relocation procedures; communication with internal and external stakeholders; and operational and incident response. Also included is a list of resources and tools to enhance preparedness.
