FDA Warns of Security Issues in Networked Medical Devices

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a safety communication emphasizing potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities in networked medical devices. According to the FDA, infecting malware, password breaches and other software issues may affect the functionality of medical devices that are interconnected through the Internet, hospital networks, other medical devices, smartphones and tablets. Recommendations for evaluating hospital network and systems security as they relate to medical devices, as well as contact information for reporting problems to the FDA, is available in the recent safety communication.
