Fact Sheet Helps Consumers Find Safe Treatment for Opioid Dependence

The Federal Trade Commission – in conjunction with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration – has released a new fact sheet to help consumers find help for opioid dependence or withdrawal. In addition to warning consumers of the dangers of dietary supplements that have not been scientifically proven to ease withdrawal or treat opioid dependence, the commission provides resources for those considering treatment. The fact sheet also includes questions that consumers should ask their health provider before taking any dietary supplement, for any medical reason. This fact sheet was released following the commission’s warning to companies that sell illegal, unapproved opioid cessation products.
