Energy and Commerce Committee Passes FDA User Fee Bill

The House Energy and Commerce Committee this week unanimously advanced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration user fee bill that includes CHA-supported language addressing drug shortages. After passing via voice vote out of the health subcommittee Tuesday, the full committee voted Thursday in a rare instance of bipartisanship. The bill would create early warning systems to alert stakeholders of drug shortages, develop comprehensive drug shortage lists and streamline approval processes for new drugs. The Senate passed a similar bill in late April. House leaders indicated that the full House will vote on the Energy and Commerce Committee legislation by the end of May.
