Donate Life Month Shines a Light on Organ Donation

For volunteer staff, public relations staff

April is National Donate Life Month, a time designed to draw attention to organ donation and motivate individuals to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors.

Anyone — regardless of age, ethnicity, or medical history — can register as a donor and help save the life of one of the over 21,000 people on California’s organ transplant waiting list. One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and heal countless others with tissue donation.

While there will be no public-facing events this year, online observances will honor donors, recipients, and their families and caregivers as well as recognize the clinical teams continuing their work during this time. Donate Life California, the state-authorized nonprofit that manages the registry, encourages the public to wear blue and green on April 17 — Blue & Green Day — and to engage in sharing the organization’s message.
