DHCS Issues Guidance on Use of Ivacaftor in Children

The Department of Health Care Services has released California Children’s Services (CCS) Numbered Letter (NL) 03-0415, superseding NL 10-0514, about the expanded use of the medication Ivacaftor in children over two years old. The guidance states that documentation must be submitted showing pulmonary function testing abnormalities, poor weight gain, poor nutritional status or growth, and/or a symptom record. A CCS program county medical director or designee will review all requests before authorization of Ivacaftor, with an initial authorization period of 60 days.
