DHCS to Host Uncompensated Care Report Webinar

The Department of Health Care Services will host a webinar June 10 from 1 – 2 p.m. (PT), to present an overview and key findings from the first uncompensated care report. The webinar link and materials will be posted on the Medi-Cal 2020 Waiver web page by June 9. Focusing on the level of uncompensated care in the state’s 21 designated public hospitals, the report aims to support the determination of appropriate funding for the Uncompensated Care Pool in years two through five of the demonstration for the Global Payment program. The report is the first of two required by California’s 1115 waiver renewal – effective Dec. 30, 2015, through Dec. 31, 2020 – which includes $6.2 billion of initial federal funding to support the state’s Medi-Cal program and its health care coverage of more than 13.5 million individuals.

The waiver renewal is designed to build on the successes of the state’s 2010 Bridge to Reform waiver, a critical element of the state’s implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). More than 4 million of the state’s current Medi-Cal members have enrolled since California implemented the ACA in January 2014.
