Department of Health Care Services to Restore Adult Dental Services

Last month, the Department of Health Care Services submitted State Plan Amendment 17-027 for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ review and approval. Effective Jan. 1, the amendment would restore all adult optional dental benefits previously eliminated in 2009 and not restored in 2014 for beneficiaries ages 21 and older with full-scope dental coverage. A list of restored benefits – including laboratory processed crowns, posterior root canal therapy, periodontal services and partial dentures – is available in the Dental Provider Handbook, Section 5, Manual of Criteria. Dental providers may render, bill and be reimbursed for the restored adult dental benefits.
