Covered California Report Highlights Hospital Care Its Members Receive

Covered California released the attached report yesterday highlighting the types of care its enrollees received in hospitals across California between Jan. 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015 — the first 18 months that Covered California offered health insurance to enrollees under the Affordable Care Act. Titled Delivering on the Promise of Care: Early Indicators that Covered California Enrollees are Getting Needed Care, the report provides an overview and summary of recently completed surveys of California hospitals that provided care to Covered California enrollees and the types of care they provided. It also includes data provided to Covered California by 111 hospitals and hospital systems statewide that responded to a joint CHA and Covered California request for data in the summer of 2015.

In addition, the report provides a detailed summary at the hospital-specific level — organized by county — including the number of unique Covered California enrollees seen by each hospital and, for many of the hospitals, data on outpatient services provided. It also charts the path Covered California will take in the years ahead to develop a fuller understanding of the care being provided to its enrollees.
