Covered California Issues Updated Standard Benefit Plan Designs for 2014

Covered California has released updated standard benefit plan designs for 2014 for individuals and small businesses, as well as the pediatric dental standard benefit plan designs. Standard benefits are those that must be offered by every plan that sells health insurance through Covered California. With standardized benefits, consumers can accurately compare health insurance. Additionally, standardizing benefits limits the consumer’s out-of-pocket costs by type of service, and ensures that the selected health insurance plans define what they offer consumers. Under California law, since the Covered California board of directors decided to establish standard benefit designs, those designs must be offered by all health plans in the individual and small group markets starting in January 2014.
